Samos comes from Senovius which means place where religious people convene. This used to be a massive monastery with wealth and power; responsible for more than 115 churches; had 8 prelates and 6 steelworkshops and lands of 42km^2.
This monastry was first founded in the 6th Century. There have been bi-gender monasteries at this place during the moorish invasions. In the 10th century life stabilized. It became a Benedictine monastery after afterwards and became powerful over the years until it was dispossesed in 1840. Until 1880 it became a monastery again.
In the present there are 6 monks, and novices and testers. This monastery has a relationship with the church in Puerto Rico. [Picture]The insignia of the church has the Pilgrim's shell! We walked around the monastery for about an hour. The historical account has been great, especially with the history of St. Benedict. All of this reminds me a lot of my cousins E and D.
